In Spain during the Christmas season they celebrate the three kings on the 6th of January, they do also celebrate Christmas day with the arrival of Father Christmas but the three kings (Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar) is the main Christmas celebration. This tradition comes from the arrival of the three kings that bestowed gifts upon baby Jesus of Frankincense, gold and Mur. This celebration marks the end of the Christmas season.

There are any traditions for this special season like parades of floats with the three kings, the “rosca de los reyes” a traditional circular cake filled with chocolate and of course the traditional mass at church.

The Spanish children also write letters to the kings to ask them for their presents that they wish to receive, it is a beautiful religious tradition quite different but at the same time quite similar to the tradition of Father Christmas.

If you do visit Spain during this time of year, we invite you to participate during these festivities.

This is a question that we are posed regularly by people considering holidaying in Menorca during the winter months, as well as those considering a more permanent move. The truth is – it’s far from boring!

Winter in Menorca is truly a magical and special time of year. Ask any local, they will more than likely give you the same answer. Where do we start…? The light, the warmth, the peaceful pace of life, the beauty … need we continue? It is everything and more, with a cooler breeze thrown in. True, January and February can sometimes bring more rain and winds, but ultimately, Spring and the late Autumn is personally, our favourite times of year.

Whether you enjoy outdoor adventures, or have kids to entertain over the festive period, there are many options which those who only visit during the Summer, may be unaware of. There are of course, numerous routes on the Cami de Cavalls to enjoy and discover, but that’s not where ‘off-season’ adventures end in Menorca. If the 25 prehistoric sites that were built during the Talayotic period are not your thing, there are plenty of cycling and horse-riding routes to explore, taking you to parts of the island that you never knew existed.

But what if the weather is bad… there is a fantastic climbing wall in Sant Lluis, perfect for all ages – Talayotic Monkeys is a great way to stay energised, whilst keeping children and adults fully entertained. Try the climbing wall for something a little different.

During the Christmas holidays in Mercadal, there is a sports center sized arena, geared-up to keep the little ones happy. Open all day from Boxing day, there is football, face-painting, more bouncy castles than we’ve seen in one place, and perfect from crawlers to 12 years of age.

Another excellent way to explore the island is to discover what is going on locally. Every main town in Menorca has various events taking place across the year and is equally busy throughout the winter months, as it is in Summer months. The town halls often have plenty of information on display. Mahon is particularly busy, with the theatre attracting plenty of visitors throughout the year.

While the majority of visitors flock each year to Menorca for its undeniably stunning beaches, warm Mediterranean climes and relaxed atmosphere; the island is just as stunning and equally as enjoyable in the cooler months! Plus… you get the beaches all to yourself!

Trebaluger, with its quirky streets, proximity to some stunning south coast beaches and a year round community; It is no wonder that more and more people are considering Trebaluger as a perfect place to set up home in this paradise we call Menorca.

Situated a short distance from Mahon/Mao, Es Castell and Sant Lluis, Trebaluger is a pretty village with a lovely combination of traditional houses with plenty of character and newer, more avant-garde properties, adding to the vibrancy of this lovely village. Nearby are many popular south coast beaches to explore and enjoy. Alcaufar, Punta Prima, Biniancolla, and Binibeca to name but a few.

Island & Home spoke to Trebaluger’s newest residents who bought in the village at the end of December ’18 and asked them their thoughts on why they chose to move to the area:

“Trebaluger is a lovely mix of old and new. It feels homely, safe and peaceful. We love the narrow, windy lanes and the all year around community. My husband grew up in Trebaluger and given his childhood, it was important for us to bring up our children here also, and give them the same opportunities”

Island and Home have two incredible family homes for sale in the village, both with gardens and private pool. Click on the links to find out more: 34047 & 34070

As part of our ‘Giving back to the community’ program, we have today delivered some presents to the Red Cross, helping those in need to give their children a happy Kings (Reyes Magos) celebration on the 6th of January, which takes place throughout Spain. There is always a lot of excitement the first week of January across Menorca, with communities everywhere, from Cuitadella, to Mahon getting involved with the arrival of the three Kings. Felices fiestas a todos!

When A Place In The Sun visit Menorca, only the best will do for their house hunters…! We are proud to have two of our Exclusive listings featured in the upcoming program. Watch this space!

It is always a pleasure working with the Channel 4 team and helping their sun seekers find their perfect home on our little Balearic Island of Menorca. Both properties that were visited, out of the five that the couple wanted to see were Exclusive listings to Island and Home. The villas were both 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, with private pools in Cala’n Porter.

The people who visit Menorca share the same understanding and appreciation for the island, which is what brings people back to visit, from all over the world, time and time again. Nothing makes us happier than to understand exactly what each individual client requires from a property. On an island so diverse, there will never been a one size fits all scenario and we cant wait to hear your story.

Please watch and enjoy some of what this diverse island of Menorca has to offer.

We’re not sure about you, but we are super excited to be welcoming EasyJet back to the island, flying direct  from London Gatwick! After the unfortunate demise of Monarch last year, there was a lot of uncertainty around the out of season direct route to the/from the UK.

From the 6th February, weekly direct flights will be operating from the UK to Menorca, increasing during the Spring and Summer. Now that this route has been established, we hope to see more routes from other areas of the UK and also during Winter 2018!
